Prayers Needed!

This morning my son is going to have his tonsils and adenoids removed. He has "kissing tonsils." They are so large that they touch. Though this is a common surgery, it's still surgery. We're hopeful and prayerful that this will help with his constant sicknesses, etc.

When we did the consult appointment, my son had some questions he wanted me to ask the Doctor. I'm pretty sure they need to teach a bedside manners class in medical school cause the Doctor's response to some of my son's questions was unbelievable. Way to go.

My son--Question 1: "Will it hurt"
Doctor--Answer 1: "Yes. It will afterwards for a little while but you'll get to have ice cream and smoothies." Pretty sure he didn't hear anything you said Doc after you said "yes."

My son--Question 2: "Can my mommy be with me the whole time?"
Doctor--Answer 2: "No. But, you'll be asleep for a lot of the time. We have to give you special stuff to put you to sleep." Uh...pretty sure he didn't care what you said once you said "no."

My son--Question 3: "Is it scary."
Doctor--Answer 3: "Some parts of it are. But you'll be asleep for those." @#)($*)#@(%*)@(#*$

And that was the pediatric specialist.

Ugh.

Mommy-RESPONSE:

My sweet son, Mommy will cover your special blanket in kisses so if you get sad you know that mommy will be with you, sending kisses your way. I will take away all your hurts with popsicles and ice cream. And the hurts I can't take away I will pray away. We can pray together. And sweet boy, God will always be with you. He can hold your hand if mommy can't be there. If you're scared, know that He's there too.

God, protect this little boy. Keep him safe in your care. Ease his fears. Take away the hurts. Be. With. Him. When. I. Can. Not. Ease MY fears (I don't even want to ask the Doctor about those). Hold my hand in the waiting room. Speak words to my heart when it's aching.

  1. Brutal honesty from that guy! I hope he has a speedy recovery and isn't afraid. I'll pray for strength for you too. Seeing your baby in a hospital is pretty traumatic.

  2. I am a bit shocked that the pediatrician didn't even sugarcoat it one bit, I mean, it sounded like he was talking to an adult.

I will be praying for you and your son Greta. Everything will be fine. :)

  3. Your response to your son brought me to tears. I'm praying for your son-for a good hospital experience for him and for a swift healing. I'm praying for the hands of the surgeons-that their scalpels will cut with accurate precision, that these incisions will be amazingly tiny. I'm praying for you-that the time of your son being in surgery will pass quickly, that you will be comforted, and that you will be able to form an even stronger bond with your son through this experience.

  4. How did it go Greta? I love your mommy response, so so sweet. You are doing a good thing by removing those adenoids and tonsils now, I was sick my whole childhood and finally had them out at 19 and the recovery was really bad. I wish my mom had done it for me when I was little!

  5. Thank you everyone! It went really well. We're staying here in the hospital overnight tonight for monitoring and pain management. However, my son is a champ! Every doctor and nurse here has commented on what a great patient he is! (grin!) He's been so brave! Thanks for the prayers!!

  6. Awww, poor little guy...and poor mom and dad! I remember when my oldest was brought in to surgery when she was 18 months. That was the scariest most helpless feeling watching her being carted down the hallway.

Many prayers to you and your son. I'm glad to hear he came through like a champ!

    Take care,
    Jodi

  7. Glad he is doing well and its wonderful that you guys stayed over. My youngest had hers out and they sent her home just hours after surgery and she was 4 - and she would have no part of medicine when she got home - fun for all!
I had mine out when I was six, I should have waited - if I had them out now I might not eat for a week or two and actually fit into that holiday dress I want to wear :)
Thanx for stopping by my blog, hope to see you again soon and would love it if you could cast a vote for me at Babble, my kids think its a cool I am on a list.
    Enjoy your ice cream week!
